I definitely agree! I think this says a lot about the state of publishing, and this lean towards small, fast paced narratives that tend to sacrifice things like pacing and worldbuilding in exchange for something that sells quicker. It's so much easier to sell shorter books, but that also means that we're losing out on a lot of wonderful elements like slow burns and valuable worldbuilding that can compromise the quality of the story.

Agreed. Overall I think it's just one more tragic consequence of how capitalism makes art into a product to sell first and foremost, rather than celebrating art for art's sake.
